Our wells
Here you can take a look at the presentation of our wells. In the list there are also two foundlings - wells built by our predecessors. They were out of service for a long time, our people repaired them and provide their service.
Our work does not stop at drilling wells. We provide a long-term maintenance of our wells and try to get the locals involved in their service.

21 m The depth of the well is 21 m, water column is 15 m. The school campus with the well is located about 100 meters from the sea at an altitude of about 20 meters above sea level. The well has a quality water and an abundant source of drinkable water.
The original foot pump was replaced in 2016 by a hand pump India.

21 m The depth of the well is 21 m, water column is 15 m. When working on the well there was loose rock and soil to two meters of depth, then limestone up to 16 m and then saturated gravel. In the second half the drilling was difficult (at 20 m probably crack) - hammer was jamming, causing falling of walls. It was necessary to repeatedly pull the entire drill string out and clean the borehole.

61 m Drilling depth is 61 m, the water is in 45 m. During the drilling there was a layer of pure limestone till the depth of 18 m. It was followed by rubble or fissure that caused the loss of pressure. This resulted in a hammer jamming by unremoved crushed stone. We resolved this situation by pulling the drill string out and cleaning the borehole.
The well was fitted with a foot pump. Since 2016 a new hand pump India has been installed.

64 m Drilling work took place in the spring of 2011. In one day we managed to drill 27 rods (82 meters), but we didn´t reach the water. There appeared only minor leaks, but the borehole was lagged for safety reasons to the depth of 64 metres. During the spring 2012 mission inspection of the well was carried out. Surprisingly, we measured a thirty-meter water column. For that reason, concreting and fitting of the pump followed. The amount of water depends on rainfall which is the weakest during late summer. The original foot pump was replaced in 2016 by a hand pump India.

106 m The borehole is 106 m deep, through the entire depth there is limestone bedrock. It is our deepest borehole constructed on Haiti. The drilling was a thorough test of our drilling machine. Only at 90 meters there were first signs of moisture and at 97 meters, water appeared. The spring is very abundant and is one of the strongest of those we drilled. The well is equipped with an electric pump with solar power. There are also two large concrete storage tanks as part of the well. The well is named after the natural karst Macocha abyss in the Czech Republic.
The drilling mission, during which the well Macocha was built, was financially supported by a permanent UN mission in Haiti, Minustah. The pumping system was financed and now it is operated by the Italian mission in Mare Rouge and Ti Riviere.

37 m The well is the only source of water for the village, which has about 2,000 inhabitants. Before the well was put into operation, local people had to walk to the water stream through rough terrain. The journey there and back took three hours. Moreover, without any certainty that water will be available. The well was originally fitted with a foot pump. Since 2016 a new hand pump India has been put into operation.
Drilling of this well had a dramatic course, which is aptly described in the work diary: "At a depth of 5 to 8 meters the borehole keeps filling with black gravel but we continue. At a depth of 38 m the hammer jams and cannot move. We pour soapy water into the borehole. We try to spin the string with a hydraulic arm from the truck. We are exhausted, there are about one hundred local spectators around us. We finish at one o'clock in the morning. The next day we try to pull out the rods with the help of hydraulic legs of the truck, but in vain. When pulling, the four-ton chain snapped. In the evening we drill with a second hammer around jammed rods that stick out of the ground. On the third day in the afternoon the string becomes loose and water starts spouting from the borehole. That is why we name the well Third day." The well is 37 meters deep, the water column is 11 meters.
The drilling mission, during which the well Third day was built, was financially supported by a permanent UN mission in Haiti, Minustah.

The borehole was completed thanks to using a soluble liquid additive that reduces friction and stabilizes the walls of the borehole. The well was originally equipped with a hand pump India. An electric pump, water reservoir and fountains with three taps were subsequently installed.
Construction of the well was co-financed by the Italian mission in Mare Rouge which also ensured complete installation of pumps and construction of a tank with a fountain. The well is run by the mission.

Unfortunately, even though the well is several miles away from the sea, the water is slightly salty and is used only as a non-potable water. Therefore, we are planning a new well located on a higher site behind the settlement in order to provide it with drinking water.
The construction of this well was supported by the amount of 6500 USD by the Czech project Reading helps. The name of the well was chosen by young readers through online voting.
